I appreciate your condolences during this difficult time.Sojourner Marable Grimmetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15995200041688185032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-218949700484857565.post-16815483481955230152011-04-01T23:11:58.805-04:002011-04-01T23:11:58.805-04:00Hi, I liked your blog, but I'm very surprised ...Hi, I liked your blog, but I'm very surprised that you did not mention your mother as a role model for you to look at other standards of beauty for black women other than straight hair. As a freshman at Ohio State your family was a mentor family for me and I distinctly remember your mom being the first black woman that I encountered in person who did not straighten her hair. She wore an afro during a time in the late 1980s when very few black women wore them. That left a strong impression on me. I have not straighted my hair for about 11years and I wouldn't have it any other way! Oh, on a separate note, my condolences to you and your family on the passing of your Dad.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17077184708317984229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-218949700484857565.post-76561013695159366782011-03-21T17:45:08.034-04:002011-03-21T17:45:08.034-04:00LOL - It just seems like yesterday at BHS! I haven't had a perm in my hair since '98, so naturally my sister included me as a resource when 6 years ago she began her 3-year journey in which she transitioned from relaxed to natural. Yes, it was actually a 3-year process . . . and that was just the decision-making!

I, like you, lived in culturally diverse neighborhoods in which black families were the minority. It is SOOOO refreshin to read the homecoming queen's crown wouldn't fit through her braids! :)

Thanks for sharing! :)I am Senitahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12707170562926255141noreply@blogger.com
