ATLANTA SELECTED AS ONE OF EIGHT CITIES TO HOST TITANIC: THE ARTIFACT EXHIBITION DURING 100 YEAR COMMEMORATION

ATLANTA SELECTED AS ONE OF EIGHT CITIES TO HOST TITANIC: THE ARTIFACT EXHIBITION DURING 100 YEAR COMMEMORATION

New exhibition to open April 6 and replace Dialog in the Dark at the

Atlantic Station Premier Exhibition Center

ATLANTA (February 21, 2012) – On April 15, 1912, Titanic, the world’s largest and most iconic Ship, sank after colliding with an iceberg in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. 100 years later on April 6, RMS Titanic, Inc. will pay tribute to the legendary story when it opens Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at the Atlantic Station Premier Exhibition Center.

Due to popular demand, Georgia will become one of eight cities to host Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition during its 100 year anniversary. This unique experience will feature more than 200 artifacts, 100 recently conserved and displayed for the first time. Through these advanced conservation efforts, the Georgia exhibition will also unveil new findings that help piece together untold stories of Titanic’s passengers and crew, which were once thought to be lost with great ocean liner.

Highlights of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition Atlanta to include:

- 212 artifacts recovered from eight research and recovery expeditions to Titanic’s wreck site

- 100 recently conserved artifacts to make their debut in Atlanta, never having been seen before

- Featuring the D-Deck door, a massive steel door originally mounted in the side of Titanic’s hull that was, in effect, the “front door” for first class passengers

- Discover untold stories of Titanic’s passengers and crew- unveiled for the first time anywhere

- A gallery devoted to local connections to where visitors can learn how the sinking of the great Ship resonated here in Georgia

- Experience historically accurate room recreations including a simulated iceberg chilled to 28 degrees, allowing visitors to feel the temperature of the North Atlantic the night Titanic sank

- View the latest video from the wreck site and understand how Titanic rest today

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will replace Dialog in the Dark, which has successfully appeared for more than three years at the Exhibition Center. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will be featured alongside BODIES…The Exhibition.

Dialog in the Dark, which made its US debut in Atlanta in August 2008, has challenged and inspired nearly 300,000 Georgia visitors to re-think prejudices and deepen self-awareness through the groundbreaking exhibition. Dialog in the Dark was extended multiple times due to popular demand, and has gone on to appear in other cities and museums across the country, including its most recent opening in New York City this past fall. People are encouraged to experience Dialog in the Dark before it closes, March 11, 2012.

Dialog in the Dark has been an exceptional experience for the Atlantic Station guest for the past three years,” said Mark Toro, managing partner, North American Properties. “There’s already so much buzz about Titanic in Atlanta and we are thrilled to be able to bring such a special and unique experience to Midtown.”

Upon entering Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, visitors will be drawn back in time to April 1912, when the Ship embarked on its maiden voyage. They’ll receive replica boarding pass, assume the role a passenger and follow a chronological journey through life on Titanic – from the Ship’s construction to life on board, the famous sinking, and the modern day efforts to recover and conserve the wreckage for future generations.

“The incredible story of Titanic is timeless and knows no generational boundaries. Young and old alike are always enthralled with both the beauty and tragedy of the ill fated ocean liner that is the story of Titanic. We are delighted to collaborate once again with Atlantic Station and excited to unveil some of the untold mysteries of this iconic Ship. With more than 25 million visitors to date, we consistently see how Titanic resonates and touches everyone, and there is no more poignant time in the story and history of Titanic than now -- the Centennial commemoration,” said Katherine Seymour, vice president of communications for RMS Titanic, Inc.

RMS Titanic, Inc. is the only company permitted by law to recover objects from the wreck site of Titanic. The Company was granted salvor-in-possession rights by a United States federal court in 1994 and has conducted eight research and recovery expeditions recovering more than 5,000 artifacts.

Georgia Tech Town Kickoff: Tech partners with Atlantic Station for the 2011 Football Season (Photos)

We had a blast today at the Georgia Tech Town Kickoff event at Atlantic Station. The boys had front row seats at the event and sang and cheered with the football team, cheerleaders, and band!

I haven't been this excited about college football since I was a graduate student at Penn State. The family fun event was fabulous!

I grew up in different college towns throughout the country and want to instill the same tradition in our young boys of being on college campuses (planting the seed early, folks). So, I like to take our boys to different college events throughout the city. If they decide to go out of state for college then that's fine, but I want them to know about all of the wonderful institutions we have in Atlanta and the South.

Joe Pa I love the Nittany Lions but this year I think I'm rooting for Tech!

Working Moms Finding "Me Time" at Lunch Time

Moms need to take time out of their busy schedules to treat themselves. This special time alone is usually called, "Me Time." Oftentimes my scheduled "Me Time" occurs during my drive to work, lunch time, and drive home.

When I'm not walking around Georgia Tech's campus during my lunch break with my walking buddy,  I'm usually treating myself to a wonderful lunch at one of Atlanta's great restaurants.

Working in Midtown is absolutely wonderful because there are so many fantastic restaurants just a stone throw away from my job. Most of the eateries are pretty affordable too!

I usually bring my lunch to work, but about two times a week I like to go out and eat lunch. I refer to this time as, "Me Time." I'll tell my husband, Roland that I'm "treating myself to lunch."

Being Married with Two Boys doesn't give me a lot of time to be alone. I enjoy the 1 hour lunch break that I have to eat by myself, people watch, and enjoy a good hot meal uninterrupted.

Today I ate lunch at Doc Green's located at Atlantic Station. I ate the Dr. Beeks salad which consisted of the following: Field greens tossed with cranraisins, feta cheese, candied walnuts and raspberry vinaigrette. (Recommended with grilled chicken.)

I tracked my calories on Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong.com blog for Doc Green's Dr. Beeks Salad Nutrition and found that I consumed 381 calories, Fat 20g, Carbs 42g, Protein 11g, Sodium 981mg.

After eating my salad, I ran across the street and spoiled myself by picking up some chocolate candy from Kilwin's. The owner at Kilwin's, John Dallaire is so personable. He gave me a sample of a Pecan praline and it was fabulous!

Mars Needs Moms - Movie Premier!

Attended Mars Needs Moms movie premiere with our oldest son, Roland. We had such a great time at the event! Roland left the movie holding my hand and telling me how much he loved me! Two Thumbs Up Disney!

The concept of the movie is classic Disney and has a wonderful storyline. The movie is about a young boy named Milo who gains a greater appreciation for his mom after Martians come to Earth and take her away.

Milo learns the "love thing" really fast and the theme throughout the film is to cherish, appreciate and love your mom.

After the movie, we were treated to chocolate covered Rice Krispies at Kilwin's. Some of the items in our goodie bag included: T-shirt, Mars Needs Moms tattoo stickers, and Carol's Daughter lip balm. Celebrity moms in the building: Tameka Raymond, Kandi and Terri J Vaughn.

Cheers to Moms!
