Come celebrate Black History Month as we take it back to the Soul era! Macy’s celebrates Black History Month “The Soul Era” with celeb stylists June Ambrose and costume designer, Johnetta Boone! They are icons of the fashion world. They’ve worked with superstars such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Will Smith, and Zoe Saldana, and have been featured in Vogue Germany, New York Magazine, VH1 and HBO! And they both will be at a Macy’s near you!

Join me! I will be attending the Macy’s Lenox Square event on February 6 at 7p.m. Macy’s will host a series of Black History Month events in the following cities:

Macy's 7th Annual Spelling Bee in Atlanta!

Does Akeelah the Bee live in your household? If you live with a little Spelling Bee or know someone who is, then join Macy's at Lenox Square Mall and Reading Is Fundamental  on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 2PM for Macy's 7th Annual Spelling Bee, and show them how well your Spelling Bee can S-P-E-L-L! Macy's 4th annual Spelling Bee winner Shivani Angappan spelled, "Poinsettia." 

There will be 27 regional Spelling Bee winners and each one will take home some great prizes, including an iPad, a $100 Macy's Gift Card, a tutoring scholarship from Kaplan and an online gift card from Scholastic.

Be sure to write this down: Macy's at Lenox Square Mall will be hosting their 7th Annual Spelling Bee event on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 2PM for ages 8-11 (Kids, Level 1). There is no purchase necessary to enter. Just be sure to show up early between 1PM and 2PM. The Contest will be held in the Kids Departments at 2PM!

Last night I had the opportunity to attend the the Macy's Romare Bearden Blogger event. I had a fabulous time mingling with local bloggers and viewing Bearden's work.

Romare Bearden is recognized as one of the most creative and original visual artists of the 20th century, Romare Bearden had a prolific and distinguished career. His life and art are marked by exceptional talent in a broad range of intellectual and scholarly interests, including music, performing arts, history, literature and world art.

The Romare Bearden Foundation is one of the oldest foundations established by an African American visual artist.

The exhibition in Atlanta runs 2/9 - 2/12. Preview a satellite exhibit of Romare Bearden’s artwork. View watercolors, prints, oil on paper and dramatic black and white Photostats that date from 1964 to 1984 when Romare Bearden was at the peak of his artistic power. In addition to works on loan from the Foundation are new works by artists inspired and influenced by Bearden’s life and legacy..

The 2010 earthquake in Haiti was catastrophic and an estimated three million people were affected by the quake.

Soon after giving birth to our second child, I sat up late nights feeding him and watching the devastation occur in Haiti. I was nursing our newborn and watching young children fight for their lives. It was absolutely heart-wrenching.

RUNWAY RED 2011: Show Me The Way Fashion Show & HIV/AIDS Benefit (Photos)

Dream Kids in conjunction with Macy's held it's 3rd annual “2011 Runway RED Wonderland Kids Fashion Show featuring Celebrity Kids” fundraising event today from 7pm - 10pm at the Fernbank Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.

Our oldest son, Roland Jay and I attending the event. It was such a joy watching the young models walk down the runway and participate in such an important cause benefiting HIV/AIDS Awareness. Proceeds from the event will benefit young children with HIV/AIDS and other life threatening diseases.

Mark Hayes, Anchor from Fox 5 Atlanta News was the MC and did a fantastic job keeping the crowd pumped up and well informed. There were several musical performances including Gabbie Raye and the OMG Girlz.

Show Me The Way Foundation is a 501-c3 non-profit organization geared towards serving disadvantaged youth in Metropolitan Atlanta. Our program is designed to uplift troubled children/teens of single parent homes, parents with HIV/AIDS or other terminal illnesses. Children/teens who participate in our organization are more inclined to act out in negative ways because they are left without parental or spiritual guidance due to a parent(s) succumbing to terminal illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and Cancer. Our foundation encourages our youth participants to fulfill their dreams by providing charity services such as tutoring, mentorship, character development and HIV/AIDS education.
