Buckhead/Cascade City Chapter of the Links, Inc. to Host A Community Conversation about a Community Response to Human Trafficking

WHO: The Buckhead/Cascade City Chapter of the Links, Inc.

WHAT: This roundtable discussion will bring together community organizations to develop strategies and alliances in an effort to address the prevention, treatment and elimination of the demand of Human Trafficking in our community.  While human trafficking has been identified as the fastest-growing criminal industry in the world, Atlanta has been identified as a major transportation hub for trafficking young women and one of 14 U.S. cities with the highest levels of sex trafficking of children. This conversation will engage community leaders in a dialogue around eradicating sex trafficking of children in Atlanta and address much-needed efforts to help the survivors.

Representatives from various community and public service organizations including sororities, fraternities, child services and religious groups will engage in conversation to develop a multifaceted approach to addressing the myriad of issues raised by human trafficking in our community. Additionally, opportunities will be identified where these community organizations can form partnerships with entities that are currently working to eradicate human trafficking and leave the discussion with a plan of action.

The dialogue will open with a short performance by Unleashed, an interactive learning experience of the award winning theatrical production, RIMSHOT Urban Musical. This performance brings awareness to human trafficking through a series of dramatic performances including acting, singing, dancing, poetry, and hip-hop.

Through this campaign, they have set a goal to raise $20,000 to get 8 girls off the street and build 8 new bedrooms for our new program. They also plan to furnish the rooms and create a Fab’rik closet so the girls can ‘shop’ for free.
