Fulton Commission Chairman John Eaves Joins Efforts to Commemorate the Life of Nelson Mandela
ATLANTA – Fulton County Commission Chairman John Eaves will join efforts to celebrate the life of former South African President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. The Chairman will join the World Affairs Council of Atlanta, in partnership with the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, as part of a community-wide memorial service for this world renowned human rights advocate. The service is scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel on the Morehouse College campus.
While the former president was still alive, Chairman John Eaves visited the prison cell that Mandela once called home. “That visit to Robben Island further drove home to me the struggle and sacrifice Mr. Mandela took on behalf of freedom for all people in his homeland,” Chairman Eaves said. “I’m excited to be part of this effort to remember his life and legacy.”
The World Affairs Council’s effort to remember Mandela comes a day after world leaders paid their respects to the former president at a memorial service in South Africa. The event at the King International Chapel begins at 7PM at the chapel at 830 Westview Drive SW.
