Bob Dockery, Jr.

BOB DOCKERY, JR - PRODUCER

When Bob Dockery was a child, his parents would tell him that, "there is no such thing as can't in the Dockery family." Armed with that indomitable will to succeed, Bob has forged a string of amazing accomplishments into a legacy that inspires and illuminates the human possibilities. In 1980 Bob formed S I Communications, a television and radio production company. Most of the over 200 radio and television programs that he produced were about African American lifestyle and culture, including several about Benjamin Mays and Martin Luther King, Jr. Still, Bob had to satisfy his lifelong itch to produce stage plays.
Dockery graduated from Morehouse College in 1966, one year before Benjamin Mays retired as President. Inspired by the many speeches and teachings of Dr. Mays, Dockery decided to create a play about the relationship between Mays and Martin Luther King, Jr., who had attended Morehouse under Mays, from 1945 to 1949. The play, although in some parts fictional, was based on actual events in Dr. Mays' life, obtained from various research sources, including Dr. Mays' speeches, writings, and books.

Only Just A Minute Benjamin Mays and MLK At The Crossroads #onlyjustaminuteATL

DIRECTED BY THOMAS W. JONES II
WRITTEN BY AARON HENNE
Including text and characters by LEVY LEE SIMON
PRODUCED BY BOB DOCKERY, JR.
Featuring WILLIE CARPENTER as Benjamin E. Mays

Only Just a Minute is inspired by the life and times of Dr. Benjamin E. Mays - long-time president of Morehouse College and mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr.

In the wake of Dr. King's death, Mays is visited by a young reporter, Max Mitchell, who argues against the non-violent ideals for which Mays has always stood.

Mitchell plans to write an article for a national publication, advocating for more aggressive action. Mays, still in the midst of his grief, must confront this challenge and convince this young man that even though a leader has passed, hope for a peaceful future has not died along with him. Along the way, Mays questions his own long-held beliefs, while coming to terms with the loss of his colleague and friend.

Producer Bob Dockery, Jr. graduated from Morehouse College in 1966, one year before Benjamin Mays retired as President. Inspired by the many speeches and teachings of Dr. Mays, Dockery decided to create a play about the relationship between Mays and Martin Luther King, Jr., who had attended Morehouse under Mays, from 1945 to 1949.
