SCAD Atlanta Buzz Bus supplies local nonprofit with donated art materials



ATLANTA, Georgia — Thursday, Nov. 13 The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Buzz Bus program will be making a surprise supply donation to approximately 100 students from three Atlanta area elementary schools at the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA at Buckhead. The center is located at 1160 Moores Mill Road, Atlanta, Georgia, 30327.

SCAD staff, students and mascot Art the Bee will surprise YMCA staff and attendees with more than $2,000 worth of art supplies provided by Follett, education supplies from the SCAD admissions staff and healthy packaged snacks from Bon Appétit Management
Company


YMCA staff will also be surprised with SCAD giveaways and art supplies for their after-school enrichment program. Members of the media are welcomed to attend and are encouraged to arrive no later than 3 p.m. 


The event will focus on the importance of studying for college and having good nutritional habits. Each student within the backpack program attending YMCA activities will receive a SCAD messenger bag with supplies and healthy snacks to take home. Good health and fitness will also be emphasized through SCAD’s student-athlete volunteers. The SCAD Atlanta athletics teams have been ranked among the nation's top 25 teams in recent years through the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The Buzz Bus program, which started in 2010, has positively impacted more than 7,200 children since its inception. The SCAD Buzz Bus makes frequent surprise visits to local elementary and middle schools and other youth-centered organizations to promote art education through one-on-one student workshops, book readings, musical performances and art supply donations.
