Chairman Eaves and V-103 to Host "Peace in the Streets Summer Block Party 2015" Event is part of county's involvement in White House My Brother's Keeper Initiative

ATLANTA - Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chairman John H. Eaves will partner with V-103 and CBS Radio to host the "Peace in the Streets Summer Block Party" as part of his ongoing support of President Barack Obama's "My Brother's Keeper" initiative seeking greater engagement and assistance to minority males. This event will promote positive activity among our young people and encourage them to seek non-violent solutions to conflict.

"It is my hope that in the midst of a day of fun and activities for these young people, that we don't lose sight of the need to provide our youth with alternatives to the streets," says Chairman Eaves.

The block party is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Welcome All Park, 4255 Will Lee Road, College Park, 30349. Activities will begin at 2 p.m. and conclude 8 p.m. Activities will include live performances, arts and crafts, anti-bullying demonstrations and pony rides for the young attendees. The block party is free of charge to all who attend. CBS Radio and WVEE-FM (V-103) will host live broadcasts from the event.

This event is part of Fulton County's ongoing involvement with the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative which seeks to discourage youth from lives of crime and to increase graduation and employment rates among young men of color.

Maroon Tiger Fans! How About Some Football, Free Food and Music?

Morehouse football fans that are hungry for some action can witness the last dress rehearsal of the 2013 season, when the Maroon Tigers stage their final scrimmage of summer camp.

The intra-squad game will take place Saturday, at 12:30 p.m., at B.T. Harvey Stadium and is free and open to the public.

It will be held in conjunction with a free food giveaway and live music, sponsored by radio station HOT 107.9 and the Positive American Youth group, from 12 – 3 p.m. 

More than 300 fans showed up for Friday’s scrimmage. The crowd of mostly parents and freshmen saw an exciting football show and listened to the House of Funk Marching Band.

The next time you’re on an elevator when the door closes and it’s just you and another person, or several people, I dare you to say something. Elevator rides can be the most awkward and uncomfortable environments on the planet, and the music doesn’t help the silence.

You’re in a small confined space where seconds feel like hours, and you can’t wait for the doors to open to inhale what you believe to be fresh air. Instead of fixating on the awkwardness, do something about it. Take time to tell someone you like their shirt, glasses, or shoes.

I’m a believer that opportunities and partnerships can be developed on elevator rides. These partnerships can lead to networking opportunities. You never know who will be in the elevator with you, and it could change your life for the better.

The next time you’re taking the elevator up to the 15th floor in silence, break the ice and say something kind to brighten someone’s day, and possibly further advance your career.
