GEORGIA STATEWIDE NURSE-IN – Support Breastfeeding Moms!

In August 2011, Monica Ponder and I founded Support Table for Two, a campaign to establish lactation rooms in public places for breastfeeding moms. Our initial campaign project is to build community support for the establishment of lactation rooms at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (HJAIA) in Atlanta.

DID YOU KNOW ATLANTA'S AIRPORT DOES NOT HAVE DESIGNATED LACTATION ROOMS FOR BREASTFEEDING MOTHERS?

The world's busiest airport, HJAIA does not have designated lactation rooms for employees or customers. They ask mothers to feed their children in the restroom or to call in advance to arrange a private room to pump or breastfeed. There is no information or timeline posted on their website when or if lactation rooms will be established. Our motivation behind this community initiative is simple: For HJAIA to tout itself as the busiest and largest airport in the world, it should also be a leader in creating comfortable environments for traveling mothers and parents. Instead nursing moms have to call in advance to secure a private place to pump or breastfeed.

WOULD YOU EAT IN THE BATHROOM? THEN WHY WOULD YOU EXPECT A BABY TO EAT THERE?

It’s Time to Establish Lactation Rooms at Atlanta’s Airport!

Airport officials suggest that nursing mothers use co-ed family restrooms to pump and breastfeed that are located at the following concourses and gates: T-4, T-8, A-8, A-27, B-9, B-22, B-29, C-11, C-19, C-43, D-4 and D-32. While this is an option for nursing mothers, it is unacceptable. Breastfeeding moms deserve a designated, safe, secure, and comfortable place to pump and breastfeed. Eating in the bathroom is gross! Why should we make our kids do it?

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

Breastfeeding moms are sick of being treated like second class citizens. Nirvana "Harley" Jennette, a mother of four from south Georgia, along with other moms has scheduled a statewide nurse-in across the state of Georgia to be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jennette was recently kicked out of church for breastfeeding her baby.

Along with thousands of other breastfeeding moms and supporters, take a stand to support breastfeeding moms in Georgia and across the country.

  1. I wish I could've breastfed more than I did, but I never was able to increase my milk supply beyond 1 oz. per feeding and around three months I went from breastmilk + formula to all formula as the baby started to reject the unproductive boobs.
